Aval upma

Aval is beaten rice and it can be used to make many light breakfasts like aval mixed with sugar and milk or aval with jaggery and coconut. Aval upma is an easy recipe and it would make a tasty and healthy breakfast.

Ingredients

3-serving
  1. 1 Cup Aval (Poha)
  2. 1 Tablespoon Oil
  3. 1 Tablespoon Mustard seeds
  4. 1 Tablespoon Urad dal
  5. 1 Tablespoon Chana dal
  6. 1 Red chilli
  7. 1 Green chilli
  8. to taste Salt
  9. Turmeric powder
  10. Coconut (grated)
  11. Curry leaves ( to garnish )

Method

  1. Blank step
    Add Photo

    Preheat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds to it. When it splutters add urad dal, chana dal, red chillies and green chillies to it.

    Add tamarind water and asafoetida, salt and turmeric powder to it. Heat it till it turns into a thick consistency. Add the soaked aval(poha) to the above consistency and mix well.

    Add grated coconut and curry leaves to it and mix well.
