Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt.
Cut in shortening with a pastry cutter or fork, until you have formed coarse crumbs.
In a separtate bowl, whisk together egg and milk. Add slowly, while stirring, to the flour mixture until the dough comes together. Mix until ingredients are incorporated...but do NOT overwork the dough.
Drop large spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown in color.Biscuits can be served with butter, jam, honey, or with country sausage gravy. Enjoy!
