I don't want to claim that this is an authentic recipe for Rasam. However this is an easy and tasty way of preparing Rasam. Tamarind is a common ingredient in Rasam, since I am not a great fan of sour taste I always avoid that. just try this out!!!!
Coarsely grind garlic,ginger,cumin seeds,peppercorns.
Grind tomato into fine paste.
In a small cooking pot heat oil and add mustard, wait for mustards to crack and then add sliced shallots, curry leaves, ground garlic mixture and fenugreek powder and saute that.
Add tomato paste, turmeric and salt. When the tomato paste heats up and the it starts boiling, add water and chopped coriander leaves and reduce the flame and wait till it boils. Turn the stove off.
You can have rasam like a soup when you have a cold or a sore throat. Rasam taste good with rice too...
