Kariveppillai Kozhi Kolambu (Curry Leaves Chicken Curry)

A tasty chicken curry prepared with curry leaves in South India.

  1. 1 Kilogram Chicken (Boiled)
  2. 1 Cup Curry Leaves
  3. 1 Cup Coconut
  4. 1 Tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  5. 6 Shallot Onion / Small
  6. 1 Tomato chopped
  7. 1/2 Tablespoon Chilli Powder
  8. 1 Tablespoon Garam Masala
  9. 6 Cashewnuts
  10. 1 Tablespoon cumin
  11. 1 Tablespoon Peppercorns
  12. and 2 Cloves Cinnamon Cardamom ,
  13. 1 Bayleaf
  14. 1 Teaspoon Fennel Seed
  15. 6 Tablespoons oil
  16. To Taste salt
  17. 1 Tablespoon Coriander leaves chopped

Method

    Add Photo

    Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan, add cumin, peppercorns, shallots, coconut, curry leaves and saute for 2 - 4 minutes. Allow it to cool, add cashew nuts and grind it. Keep the ground paste aside.

    In a pan, heat the remaining oil. Add mustard (after it splutters) add cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf, fennel seeds, Ginger Garlic Paste,chopped tomato and saute for 2 mins.

    Add ground paste, garam masala, chilli powder, water, boiled chicken and salt. Allow it to cook in low heat for 10 - 15 mins. When the curry becomes thick, add chopped coriander leaves and serve it with plain rice.

    You can also prepare it as a side dish for dosa, idly, naan, poori and paratha.
