This is a spicy moong dal curry which goes well with steaming rice and hot rotis.
Soak moong dal in water for 4 hours.
Pressure cook moong dal along with enough water, a little salt, pepper powder and green chilies, till one whistle is sounded.
Make a coarse paste by grinding chopped onions, green chilies, ginger and garlic.
Add a little oil to a cooking pan. When the oil is heated, add the paste to it and heat it till the raw smell disappears.
To this, add a paste of red chili powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder in water and stir well.
Add chopped tomatoes to the above mixture and cook well till the tomatoes become soft and well cooked.
To the above gravy, add the cooked moong dal and mix well.
Add cumin seed powder and garam masala. Add a little water depending on the consistency required. Mix well by keeping the flame low.
