This is a simple tangy chutney which is made without coconut and tastes good with dosa and idli.
Roast the chutney dal and keep it aside.
Stir fry onion with salt and oil till golden brown (You add salt along with onion while frying to accelerate the process).
Add tomatoes and cook it till it turns into a pulp.
Then add the coriander leaves and curry leaves to the mixture and stir till it is no more fresh green.
Add asafoetida powder, coriander powder, chilli powder and salt and mix well.
Allow it to cool for a few minutes and then grind the above mixture along with the roasted chutney dal to a smooth paste.
Garnish it with coriander leaves (optional). Serve with dosa or idli.
