Spicy Channa Curry

A dish with an Indian flavour.........Tastes good with Poori and Chapati.

Ingredients

  1. 1 Cup Chickpeas Channa / White
  2. 4 Onions (Chopped)
  3. 2 Tomatoes (Chopped)
  4. 1 Ginger Piece (chopped)
  5. (chopped) 2 Cloves Garlic
  6. 2 Tablespoons Coconut Grated
  7. 1/2 Teaspoon Garam Masala
  8. 2 Tablespoons Channa Masala
  9. 1/2 Tablespoon Chilli Powder
  10. To Taste Salt
  11. 1/2 Cup water
  12. 4 Tablespoons oil
  13. 1/4 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  14. 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  15. 4 Cloves
  16. 2 Cardamom Green
  17. 2 Curry Leaves Stalks
  18. 1 Teaspoon Coriander Leaves Chopped

Method

    Add Photo

    Soak the channa overnight (6 - 8 hours)

    Drain the water and mix the salt with the channa. Pressure cook it (4 - 6 Whistles)

    Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and saute onions and tomatoes for 5 - 6 minutes.

    Add ginger, garlic and grated coconut with onion mixture. Then grind it in a mixer till it turns into a paste.

    Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. After splattering, add Cinnamon, Cloves, Green Cardamom, Curry leaves and saute for a few seconds. Then add the Onion paste, pressure cooked channa, salt and water.

    When it gets thicker, add chopped coriander leaves. Serve it with Poori / Chapati.
