Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cup Pumpkin Mathanga / - grated
  2. 1/4 cup water mints Cherupayar Parippu / Moongdal - soaked in for 10
  3. 2 Green chilli - chopped
  4. 1/4 cup Coconut Grated -
  5. 1/4 tspn Cumin seeds -
  6. For tempering
  7. 2 tspns Coconut oil -
  8. 1/4 tspn Mustard seeds -
  9. 1 red chilli Dry -
  10. Curry leaves - few
  11. 2 Coconut Grated - tblspn

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Cook cherupayar parippu/Moongdal in a pressure cooker adding enough water and little salt.Just cook for 2-3 whistles in medium flame.Don't overcook the dal/parippu.

    Then in another pan add grated pumpkin,turmric powder,green chilli and salt.Add little water and cook till the water dries up and the pumpkin becomes soft.

    Meanwhile,gently crush together grated coconut and cumin seeds.Add this to the cooked pumpkin-dal mix.Mix well,add more salt if needed.Cover and cook in low flame for 2-3 mints.

    Now heat oil in another pan.Splutter mustard seeds.Add dry red chilli and curry leaves.Add grated coconut also.Saute till coconut becomes golden brown.Pour this tempering into the pumpkin -dal koottu.

    Mathanga Cherupayar parippu Erissery is ready.
