Plantain with grated coconut (kaya thoran)

Raw cooking plantain with grated coconut.. a lot of fiber, potassium, vitamins your way....



  1. 1 plantain Raw cooking
  2. 10 water skinned , chopped and soaked in for minutes
  3. 1/2 cup coconut grated
  4. 2 cloves garlic Crushed
  5. 1 green chillies -
  6. 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder -
  7. to taste Salt
  8. a few Water -  (for steam to cook the veggie)  spoons
  9. For the seasoning -
  10. 2 tablespoons coconut oil -
  11. 1 teaspoon mustard seeds -
  12. 3 shallot Sliced -
  13. 2 chilly dry red -
  14. 1 sprig Curry leaves -
  15. 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds -

  1. Add Photo

    Mix the skinned, chopped, soaked in water plantain, grated coconut, turmeric, salt, garlic, chillies into a pan and cook till plantain is tender. Make sure it doesn't burn, by stirring occasionally.

    Once cooked, do the seasoning (tadka).

    Heat oil in a small pan, splutter the mustard seeds in it. Add the cumin seeds. Add the sliced shallots, broken red dry chillies and curry leaves. Let the shallots turn light brown.

    Remove from flame and add it to the main dish.
