Spicy, comforting, healing for colds, cough and the like... There are many variations and this is my variation for a quick rasam.. for the lazy cooks, without losing its charm...

Ingredients

  1. 1 inch Ginger crushed
  2. with 4 cloves Garlic skin   crushed
  3. 1 tomato large sliced
  4. tamarind a small ball
  5. 2 tablespoons oil
  6. 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  7. 1.5 teaspoons pepper roughly ground
  8. 1/2 teaspoon chilly powder
  9. 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  10. 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  11. 2 cups water
  12. 3 tablespoons Coriander leaves chopped full
  13. 2 Asafetida a sprinkle or
  14. to taste salt

Method

    Add Photo

    Soak tamarind in 2 cups water. Squeeze the tamarind into the water. Keep aside.

    Heat oil in a pan, splutter the cumin seeds in it.

    Add crushed ginger and garlic. Let it start to turn brown.

    Add the sliced tomato, close with a lid for a few minutes, so that it cooks enough to blend in.

    Once it is cooked, add turmeric, chilly powder, coriander powder, pepper, salt and saute for a few seconds.

    Then strain the tamarind water through your fingers and add it into the pan. Bring to a boil.

    Add asafetida.

    Add chopped coriander leaves once you turn off the stove.
