Soya Granules Upma

This is a variant of the Aval/Bread Upma recipes using Soya Granules for those who wish to switch to Soya for health benefits or plainly like Soya.Nowadays you get Soya granules in your regular supermarket. Try Nilgiris anyway..

  1. 250 Grams Soya Granules
  2. 2 Green Chillies
  3. 2 Cups Onionchopped
  4. 1 Teaspoon Turmeric
  5. 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  6. 1 Tablespoon Oil
  7. To Taste Salt
  8. 2 Tomato
  9. To Taste Garam Masala (Optional)

  1. Add Photo

    Soak the soya granules for about 5 minutes and keep it drained.

  2. Add Photo

    In the meanwhile heat the oil in a deep kadai or pan. Add the mustard seeds and let it pop.

    Add the chopped onions and green chillies

  4. Add Photo

    Keep stirring for a minute and add the chopped tomatoes.

  5. Add Photo

    Let it cook for about 5 minutes. Then add some 2 cups of water and add the soya to it.Add turmeric. If you opted for garam masala, add that too at this stage.

  6. Add Photo

    Add salt at this stage and cook for another 5 minutes until the water is evaporated and you get a solid stuff. Test the soya for softness and whether the flavour has gone into the granules. Else add a cup of water and cook until the condition is obtained.

  7. Add Photo

    Garnish with coriander if required.
