Cabbage thoran

This thoran or side dish is made from cabbages and is easy to prepare. This version uses coconut, but it is optional. Coconut not optional if you are a Malayalee :P Bon Appetit!

  1. 0.5 Kilogram Cabbage
  2. 0.5 Coconut
  3. 2 Tablespoons Oil
  4. 1 Pinch Mustard
  5. 1 Onion
  6. 4 Chilli
  7. 1 Teaspoon Turmeric powder
  8. 0.5 Cup Water
  9. 1 Teaspoon Salt

  1. Add Photo

    Grate the cabbage and the coconut. Cut the onion and the chillies. Keep aside

  2. Add Photo

    Heat the oil. When adequately hot, put in the mustard

  3. Add Photo

    Add the cut onion and chillies. Stir and heat well till the onion becomes golden brown

  4. Add Photo

    Add the grated cabbage and turmeric powder. Stir well for 4 - 5 minutes

  5. Add Photo

    Add water and salt. Stir well enough for it to mix well. Keep the vessel closed for 4 - 5 minutes

  6. Add Photo

    Remove the lid and add the coconut. Stir well until ready (4 -5 minutes typically). You will have to fry it more if water remains after the lid is removed.
