Indian Fry Bread Tacos

This dish was prepared for the subreddit, /r/52weeksofcooking, where the theme was Native American. While these tacos were beyond amazing, I think I could have stayed with one :). A** Blood is a homemade chili powder made with ghost chilis, here (



  1. 3 Cups Flour
  2. 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  3. 3 teaspoons Baking Powder
  4. 3/4 Cups Milk
  5. Water , as needed
  6. Lard , for frying
  7. 1 lb Ground Beef
  8. 1/2 Yellow Onion , diced
  9. 3 Clove Garlic , minced
  10. Taco Seasoning , see below
  11. 1 15 oz Refried Beans Cans
  12. Tomatoes , diced
  13. Cheddar Cheese
  14. Salsa
  15. Lettuce , chopped
  16. 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
  17. 1 teaspoon Paprika Smoked
  18. 1 teaspoon Cumin
  19. 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  20. 1/4 teaspoon Blood A **
  21. 1/2 teaspoon Oregano Dried
  22. 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  23. 15 Black Pepper Cranks Fresh
  24. 1/2 teaspoon Corn Starch
  25. 1/4 Cup Water

    First make the Indian Fry Bread. Stir together the flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.

    Stir with a fork as you drizzle in the milk and keep stirring so it stays together.

    Add just enough water to get the dough to come together. I used about 1/2 a cup.

    Cover the dough and let it sit for 45 minutes

    Heat about 2 inches of lard in a skillet over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, grab some dough and either press it out with your fingers or roll it out on a clean surface.

    Carefully drape the dough into the hot lard and cook until golden brown (45 seconds to 1 minute), using tongs, flip the bread and cook an additional 30 - 45 seconds.

    Remove the bread to paper towels to drain and repeat for the rest of the dough.

    Heat up the refried beans.

    Brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain.

    To make the taco seasoning, stir together the chili powder, paprika, cumin, cayenne pepper, A** Blood, oregano, salt, black pepper, and corn starch.

    Add the diced onion, minced garlic, taco seasoning (either package or homemade), and 1/4 Cup water. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 5 minutes.

    Put all of the toppings on the fry bread. Serve hot.
