This drink was prepared for the subreddit, /r/52weeksofcooking, where the theme was "whole spices". I have been making a version of this for years and it was one of my favourite things to drink when I was visiting Germany but I decided to make it a little bit different based on some searching on the internets. This is really good but it does sneak up on you alcohol wise because of how easy it is to drink. It is great for cold fall and winter nights.
I used Merlot but a Cabernet Sauvignon would work as well. Also, try not to use an overly expensive bottle of wine since you are flavouring it.
