This is a popular and flavorful rice preparation of Tamil Nadu.It can be served on its own or have it with curd,pickle or pappadums. Fried nuts (cashew nuts or peanuts ) can also be added to the below recipe.
Wash Rice well. Bring a large pan of water to boil and add required amount of salt to it. Add rice and cook till its done.
Drain rice and keep it aside.
Heat oil in a large sauce pan.Splutter mustard and add chenna dal (soaked and drained) and urad dal.Fry it till golden.
Add curry leaves,red chillies and green chillies.Saute for few minutes.
Add turmeric powder and asafoetida and saute for 30 seconds on low-medium heat.
Add rice to the above. Fried nuts can be added at this stage along with rice. Mix well.
Add lemon juice and salt (if needed). Mix well and cook it for 2 minutes.
