A delicious and simple fish biryani recipe made with herring fish. Any sea fish can be used to prepare this like king fish, Indian Salmon etc. Serve it with raita for a delicious meal. This can be served even in parties or when you have guests at home.

Ingredients

  1. Fish marination
  2. 2 Herring fish
  3. 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  4. 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
  5. 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  6. 2 teaspoon Mustard oil
  7. 1 tablespoon Lime juice
  8. For biryani
  9. 3 green cardamon
  10. 1 black Cardamom
  11. 4-5 cloves
  12. 2 black Stone flower
  13. 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  14. 1 Onion medium sized, sliced
  15. 1 tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
  16. 2 Tomatoes medium sized, chopped
  17. 1 tablespoon Coriander powder
  18. 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
  19. 2 teaspoon biriyani Masala
  20. 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  21. to taste Salt
  22. to taste Sugar
  23. as needed Vegetable Oil
  24. 2 tablespoon Coriander leaves chopped

Cooking Instructions

    Marinate the fish with turmeric powder, red chilli powder, Salt, mustard oil and lime juice for 1 hour.

    Fry the fishes lightly from both sides for about 2-3 minutes and keep aside.

    Heat a thick bottom pan add vegetable oil. Throw in whole spices-green cardamon, black cardamom, cinnamon stick, clove, star anise, black Stone flower, bay leaves and cumin seeds.

    Add sliced onions, saute till transluscent. Add ginger garlic paste and green chillies followed by chopped tomatoes.

    Add the dry masalas-turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, biriyani masala and salt. Cook and stir till oil starts separating from the sides.

    Add the rice, fry it well with the masalas for 5 minutes.

    Add 3 cups of water, salt as required and mix well.

    Cover it with a lid until partially cooked. Add the fish pieces, cover with it with the rice. Cover with lid and cook in low flame until done.

    Keep it covered for 10 minutes. Open the lid garnish with some chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with raita.
