Bengali Style Mutton Curry with potatoes

Mutton curry prepared with potato is a very old authentic bengali delicacy. Bengali's sunday lunch is incomplete without mutton curry and steaming hot rice. The juice of this light curry is finger licking tasty and your mood will brighten up as soon as you bite through the soft mushy potato from the curry. You won't be able to perceive the taste until you give it a try ! You will prefer it in anytime.
Ingredients

500 grams Mutton

6 pieces Potatoes (peeled and halved)

2 medium sized Finely chopped onion

2 Slit green chillies

1 tbsp Ginger - garlic paste

1 tbsp Dry red chilli paste

1 tbsp Red chilli powder

2 tsp Turmeric powder
-
1 tsp Cumin powder
-
1 tbsp Coriander powder
-
1 tsp Garam masala powder

1/2 cup Yogurt
-
1 Bay leaf
-
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds

1 tsp Sugar
-
Salt as required

1/2 cup Mustard oil

1 tbsp Ghee

2 cups Hot water
Cooking Instructions

Marinate the mutton pieces with yogurt, dry red chilli paste, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and 4 tbsp mustard oil for 6 hours.

Heat oil in a kadai.

Add potatoes and fry until it becomes golden brown and

Add oil in the same kadai.

Add bay leaf, sugar and cumin seeds for seasoning.

Add onions and saute till it becomes brown.

Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for 20 seconds.

Add marinated mutton and stir continuously.

Add salt, slit chillies and fried potatoes, stir for 10 minutes on a medium flame.

Add hot water.

Cover the lid on a low flame for 1 hour and let it boil.

Open the lid and add garam masala powder and ghee.

Turn the gas off when the mutton gets cooked.

Serve hot with steamed rice and salad.
