Ingredients

  1. 1 can coconut milk
  2. 1 tbs cardamon
  3. 1 tbs yeast
  4. 1/4 cup warm water
  5. 1/2 cup sugar
  6. Cooking oil for deep frying

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Combine the yeast with water, sugar and flour and leave to rise

  2. 2

Combine the flour, sugar, cardamom, coconut milk and yeast mixture.

  3. 3

Knead the dough with your hands

  4. 4

    Leave the dough to rise.

  5. 5

Divide the dough into five balls.

  6. 6

Coat the dough balls with flour and let them rise.

  7. 7

Roll out each ball and shape them into circles.

  8. 8

Cut the dough circles into triangles or squares

  9. 9

Pour the oil into a wide, deep frying pan over medium heat.

  10. 10

Test the oil. When frying mahamri, it’s essential that the oil is hot enough to properly fry the dough

  11. 11

Drop four mahamri into the oil.

  12. 12

Flip the mahamri. After you notice that your mahamri are starting to turn golden brown on the bottom, flip them with a spatula.

  13. 13

Remove the mahamri. Use a slotted spoon to scoop up the mahamri after they have finished frying.

  14. 14

Repeat the same process of frying for the other sixteen mahamri, frying in batches of four at a time.

  15. 15

Serve them while warm! Enjoy them with a steaming mug of coffee or chai!
