Ingredients

20 mins
6 servings
  1. 1 cup toovar dal
  2. handful curry leaves
  3. 1 green chili
  4. pinch haldi
  5. pinch asafoetida
  6. 1 teaspoon chili powder

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Wash the dal well. Soak it if you like to speed up cooking - I don't

  2. 2

Add about a cup of water to the dal and cook it in a pressure cooker for about 2-3 whistles. The point is to cook it but not quite -it should be three-fourths done

  3. 3

Peel the pumpkin and slit the green chili

  4. 4

    Chop the pumpkin

  5. 5

Open the pressure cooker and add salt, haldi, chilli powder, hing,

  6. 6

Chopped pumpkin and green chili and subject the lot to a few more whistles

  7. 7

When the pressure cooker is ready to open, add curry leaves to the moloshyam

  8. 8

Serve hot, drizzled with coconut oil with hot rice and papads and a side dish of some dry fried root vegetable

I'D LIKE TO DOCUMENT RECIPES I USE AT HOME. MOST OF MY COOKING IS THE ATTEMPT TO SATISFY THE TASTE BUDS OF MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF. THE CUISINES ARE MOSTLY SOUTH INDIAN (OFTEN MALAYALEE ) AND NORTH INDIAN (PUNJABI). AS I LEARNED COOKING FROM A WIDE VARIETY OF PEOPLE, SO TOO I HOPE THAT MY BLOG WILL HELP SOMEONE TRYING TO MESS AROUND IN A KITCHEN. I LOVE SURFING THE NET FOR FOOD BLOGS AND I HOPE I CAN REPAY ALL THE WONDERFUL IDEAS I GOT THUS BY SHARING LINKS AND PROVIDING SOMETHING UNIQUE TOO .
