Aleppo Muhammara

There are so many ways of making muhammara (a popular mezze dish all over the Mediterranean made from walnuts and red bell peppers). Some require grilling the red bell peppers and others call for roasting the walnuts. I found out that the best and most delicious version is the simplest and fastest one. This recipe is adapted from Tony Tahhan's blog and can be ready in less than 10 minutes.

4 servings
  1. 3 red bell peppers
  2. 1 cup walnuts, roughly chopped
  3. 3/4 cup breadcrumbs
  4. 1/4 cup pomegranate molasses
  5. 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  6. 1 tbsp cumin, ground
  7. 1 tbsp spicy red pepper paste or harissa, optional
  8. 1 tsp salt, or to taste
  9. 1 tsp sugar, optional
