‘Mochar Paturi ' (Banana Blossom Cooked in Banana Leaf) is a very delicate Bengali recipe and goes very well with steamed rice or you can serve this as a starter too.  This is a very easy , Flavourful, delicious and ofcourse very Healthy recipe.
Today I prepared it for the first time but from now love to prepared it again and again for my family as they enjoyed this delicacy a lot . @Madhubish27

Ingredients

  1. 1 medium size Banana blossom/flower
  2. 1/2 cup coconut
  3. 1 tsp black mustard seeds
  4. 1 1/2 tsp white/yellow mustard seeds
  5. 1 tsp poppy seeds
  6. 4-5 green chilli
  7. 3 tbsp mustard oil
  8. to taste Salt
  9. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  10. 1 banana leaf or as required

Cooking Instructions

    Firstly, Clean the banana flower that you have individual banana blossoms with their calyx and pistil removed. Transfer the cleaned blossoms to a saucepan with 1/2tsp salt, 1/2tsp turmeric and 2 cup water. Cover and keep it for 2-3 hours.
    Drain the water completely and wash once to remove the extra salt and turmeric before using.

    Further, in a pressure cooker add banana flower, 1/4tsp salt and 1/2cup water Cook till 3 whistles. Once it comes to room temperature, drain extra water completely.

    In a grinding jar add black mustard seeds, white mustard seeds, poppy seeds and finely chopped coconut, grind until smooth by adding water as required.
    Keep it ready.

    Drain the water from banana flower as much as possible and mash it properly.
    In a bowl add mashed banana flower, mustard and coconut paste, 1tsp mustard oil and 1tsp salt or to taste. Combine all together.

    Now coat the banana leaf pieces with mustard oil and roast those over a pan for a few seconds on both sides. This will help it to become more pliable so that it can be easily folded without breaking.

    Place one banana leaf, add 2tbsp blossoms mixture and 1 green chilli on the center. Carefully fold the two opposite sides of the leaf inward and then the next two sides inward to make a parcel. Tie the parcel with threads. Make all the parcels following the same

    Heat a non-stick pan or tawa with 2 tbsp mustard oil, place the parcels on the tawa and Cover the lid. Steam the parcels in low flame for 8-10 minutes. Or till you find the color of the leaf change. Flip the parcels and steam the other side for another 8-10 minutes.

    Once done take the parcels out from pan. Cut the threads.
    Serve hot with steam rice.
