To make Teriyaki Sauce, I use Sugar, Soy Sauce and Mirin. I sometimes add extra ingredients for flavours, such as Garlic, Ginger, Chilli, etc. It’s a very simple sauce and you can easily alter the flavour to suit your taste and ingredients. You don’t need to buy a bottle of Teriyaki Sauce. Using thinly sliced Beef, this rice bowl can be cooked in less than 5 minutes. Pork OR Lamb can be used instead of Beef.

  1. 120 g thinly sliced Beef *I sliced a piece of steak
  2. Oil *I used Sesame Oil
  3. 1 serving warm Cooked Rice
  4. Finely chopped Spring Onion
  5. Toasted Sesame Seeds
  6. Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix) *optional
  7. Teriyaki Sauce
  8. 1/2 tablespoon Sugar
  9. 1 tablespoon Soy Sauce *1 tablespoon is 15ml
  10. 1/2 tablespoon Mirin
  11. 1/2 tablespoon Sake (Rice Wine) OR Water
  12. Chilli Flakes as required
  13. 1 small clove Garlic *grated
  14. 1/2 teaspoon grated Ginger *optional

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Combine all the Teriyaki Sauce ingredients in a small bowl.

  2. 2

Heat a small amount of Oil in a frying pan over high heat, cook Beef until nicely browned, but I won’t take a long time at all.

  3. 3

Add the sauce and cook for 1 minutes. When the sauce is thickened, it is done. Half fill a bowl with warm Cooked Rice and cover it with the Beef. Add some Spring Onion, Toasted Sesame Seeds and Shichimi (Japanese Chilli Spice Mix), and enjoy.
