Classic Country Chicken Fried Steak with white gravy
This is how my mother makes chicken fried steak. It's my brother's favorite meal he always requests for his birthday. Just crush the crackers finer than I did this time I was being lazy 😋
Ingredients

About 6 cube steaks

2 eggs, beaten

Sleeve of saltine crackers

Salt and pepper

2-3 cups milk

2-3 Tbsp flour
-
Butter and/or oil for frying
Cooking Instructions

Start by tenderizing the cube steak with a mallet and season with salt and pepper

Finely crush the saltine crackers for coating and starting heating oil and/or butter in frying pan.

Coat the steak first in the beaten eggs then the crackers

Fry until golden brown on both sides over medium heat. Cover and set aside.

Reduce heat to medium low and whisk flower in with remaining oil and drippings. Then slowly whisk in the milk and season with salt and pepper. Whisk continously until the gravy begins to simmer. Allow to simmer and thicken for 1 minute.

Serve gravy over the steak, potatoes and any other sides of your choice. Enjoy!
